7:00 AM
| Check work mail on my blackberry before the day gets started. Discover my star candidate on a tough search has just emailed me to say she is pulling out due to 'relocation concerns'. Take note of her mobile number. |

| Call the star candidate to convince her to reconsider this opportunity. |

| On the train. Reading the morning's news & business happenings; make a note of 2 senior executive appointments in well-known organizations. Check my schedule for the day – first appointment - 9am team meeting. |

| Grab a notepad and a coffee, head to internal team meeting – 45 minutes to discuss current search assignments and workloads with research team and Consultants who are assisting me on the search. |
10:00 AM
| Head back to my desk to open email and check voicemail. Check my 'to-do' list for the day - I'm trying to get into the habit of planning my days in advance. |
10:20 AM
| Colleagues come by to say hello and chat about the weekend, the week ahead and office 'stuff'. Really great to work with a friendly team. |
10:30 AM
| I have a handful of names on a particular assignment that I have yet to call - spent much of last week on the phone/online, identifying names in this highly specialized niche market. Spend the next hour on the phone, leaving voicemails and in 2 cases having live conversations and 'profiling' both individuals as potential candidates. I follow-up both of those calls with an email containing a few details on our search and the Position Specification. Make a note in our database to reconnect with the candidates later in the week. |
12:00 PM
| Meet with our CEO to review our process on a search. The search is going well and we have a strong list of potential candidates. 10 days to our shortlist meeting with the client... |
1:00 PM
| Lunch…Discuss the sign-on bonus I managed to convince my client to extend to the candidate… |
1:30 PM
| Back to work. Discuss a new assignment – briefing, ideal candidate profile, target sectors discussed. |
2:45 PM
| Continue with calls to potential candidates and sources on a search that began last week. Mental note: not much interest yet on this assignment, must rethink strategy. |
5:30 PM
| Pre-scheduled reference call on a short-listed candidate. Positive feedback from the referee. Send notes of the call to an Assistant for preparation. |
7:05 PM
| Take a call from our CEO– could I attend a meeting tomorrow morning with a new client at their new site on the other side of the city. Get a researcher to give me a download on as much information that can be collated on the prospective client and draw out a list of representative searches in the said domain, sector, and function. Must remember to wake up extra early. |
8:15 PM
| Meet a prospective candidate for an ongoing CFO search. Glad this went well…I have been able to influence and convince the candidate about this career move. I am briefing my client about the candidate shortlist and appraise him on further developments… |
