John Chen founded Foster Partners’ activities in South East Asia in 2001and became a Principal in Penrhyn International in 2006.  He heads the Kuala Lumpur office and undertakes assignments in Malaysia and throughout South East Asia in a variety of industries and functions.  A high proportion of his assignments are for European and American multinationals.

Before entering the executive search profession John was Chief Marketing Officer of CAV Thakral Home Entertainment in Shanghai.  He also spent seven years with the Shanghai office of BBDO Worldwide as Director of Client Service.  His career started in the Malaysian offices of Young and Rubicam and Union 45/Publicis.

John graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1985.  He speaks English, Bahasa Malaysia, and Chinese (Putonghua, Hokkien, Cantonese).
